Laser Tag: Apollo will be taking place at the former Burlington High School or Apollo School in Burlington, IA on Saturday, May 2nd. The event will run from 9AM until 4PM. Tickets are $50 per person (an incredible value for over 5 hours of laser tag). This event is limited to people ages 13 and up due to the venue, as well as the event itself having many immersive elements and game mechanics that may be too in-depth for a younger player to grasp.

This event is limited to 32 players total. There will be two teams of 16 players “fighting” for control of objectives throughout the 4-story, 200,000+ SF building. Teamwork is heavily advised and there will be time before the event starts for players to form a game plan and divide into squads to take on objectives. Once all tickets are sold out, team rosters will be sent to players. Players can also expect to receive floor plans for the building, a document with all objectives and missions listed for the scenarios, and a short rule set for the game. During the event, colored armbands will be used to show team affiliations. All players will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to the start of the event.

Q: What kinds of things can I expect to be doing during the event as a player? Be ready to work with your team to accomplish the missions and win the event. Moving as a squad to capture control points, rescue hostages, search for important documents, and defuse “explosives” (electronic devices that imitate bombs). The building is large and the architecture creates a very interesting and challenging arena for a laser tag battle. Every floor will offer a new experience and mission to complete.

Q: Do I need any special equipment or experience to participate? No, you do not need any special equipment or experience to play. Just come with a good pair or boots (recommended) or solid tennis shoes (preferably with ankle support), plenty of water or food/snacks for the day, and a positive attitude. We will provide all of the professional laser tag equipment you need and show you how to operate it. If you do have any military uniforms, camouflage, or tactical gear it is encouraged to wear those as it will help with immersion and is right in line with the spirit of the game. A military uniform is not absolutely necessary, but one can be obtained for very cheap online or at a local military surplus store. The last thing that may be of use is a Baofeng radio as it will help with being able to communicate with your teammates. Most regular consumer radios will not be strong enough to travel through the concrete and stone of the different floors of the building. Baofeng’s are relatively inexpensive and much more high-powered than other handheld radios. If you have the money to spend, they will be extremely useful.

Q: Will there be a storyline for players to immerse themselves in? Yes, the storyline will be sent to players ahead of the event. The story behind the event will be set in the near-distant future and players will be taking on the roles of “special forces operatives” in a fictional timeline. You can get as into it as you want to. If you want to attend to enjoy the atmosphere and to experience a real-life video game, perfect. If you just want to come to “shoot” some people and try a new hobby, that is perfect as well.
